Many years ago, I put together a Death Star-themed book nook, which was cool, but I recently decided to revisit the idea as a way of incorporating new technologies. Same deal: 3d printed tiles and a few LEDs here and there, but with a significant difference:
That hyperspace effect in the back is on a small video screen. But more to the point:
So how does that work? The "window" is a 7" LCD video screen, which is attached to a Raspberry Pi Zero. The OS on it is customized to play looping videos. There's a tiny USB drive attached with a bunch of starfield and hyperspace transition videos, so when the whole thing is plugged in, it kicks off an endless loop of space travel videos which runs for several hours before repeating. And it all fits in the housing on top.
